The Tom Merritt file
As more and more treasured post-Tech.tv familiar faces leave TWiT, I hope very much things stay positive at the TWiT Brick House. TechTV was a beacon of the late 90’s and early 00’s for aspiring techno geeks and nerds alike. I never had the channel at home, so I always had my amazing grandmother tape me episodes and also watch them while I was at her house. I have many fond memories of Call For Help, X-Play, and the infamous Screensavers. Personalities like Leo Laporte, Chris Pirillo, Tom Merritt, Sara Lane, Kevin Rose, and more, helped inspire me to be what I am today, to be highly interested in the field of computing. Who could forget John Devorak! Read the rest of this entry
A little mention of the site on just about the coolest BSD podcast ever. Thank you very much for the mention guys, I appreciate it, despite my bumbling mistakes like using the 8.x install by complete accident. Still go it installed though 🙂 There may be some useful tips out of the trial run of this yet! Another comment on one of the challenge articles asked for a PC-BSD Challenge as well. Dont worry folks, that is coming down the line, but will likely be a challenge not set to a number of days, but until I feel comfortable with the setup, whcih could very well be just a few days use.
Note: In case the embedded timecode does not work the mention is at 01:04:00. Thank you.
For those interested, I have created a repo for Jupiter Broadcasting automated scripts for recording the Live broadcastings. Simple stuff, and I am welcome to changing them to fit our needs (adjusting timing for preshow and aftershow banter times). I am really tired, so I probably made mistakes, but hope this is nice for those who wish to use them. All file names in the scripts will append the current date if you keep more than one show in your Videos directory. You can find the repo below, or at the top menu of this site.
Please check my work, and NEVER run a script without examining it first. I am not responsible for any damage, even though these scripts are pretty harmless.
Please Note: crontab examples are for the EST time zone
A nice new Podcast I ran across this past week was Bad Voltage. Coming from such key stars as Jono Bacon (of Ubuntu), Bryan Lunduke (of Jupiter Broadcasting fame), and bright folks like Stuart Langridge and Jeremy Garcia. Although the Podcast sports such Open Source talent, the Podcast has a wide range of technology topics. The podcast is available in OGG or MP3 format, with no video format at the moment.
“Wireless Packet Sniffing!!! Tracking vehicle Tire Pressure Sensor data with Jared Boone and open source software defined radio. Plus, eavesdropping on Verizon CDMA phones with a hacked femtocell – Doug DePerry and Andrew Rahimi of ISEC Partners. All that and more this time on a very special Toorcon 2013 edition of Hak5.”
